The Tasks & Objectives of the
Vietnam Offshore Wind Energy
Industry Group
The Vietnamese Offshore Energy Industry Group (VOSWEG)is fully focused on further assisting the growth and development of local and foreign companies which have offshore wind energy related engineering operations in Vietnam, which will be needed to fabricate, construct, install and maintain the planned 6GW of offshore wind farms in Vietnam by 2030, thus creating the promised tens of thousands of new jobs and economic prosperity for the country.
The Vietnam Offshore Wind Energy Group will,

THE CHALLENGES OF ACHIEVING THE GOALS OF POWER DEVELOPMENT PLAN VIII
With wind speeds of 6-11 m/s available, utilizing existing turbine technologies it is expected that each individual turbine, on average, would be 10MW or less. Thus to achieve 1GW of installed offshore wind energy per year, Vietnam is going to need to identify large international suppliers and experienced EPCI contractors, etc, which together have the ability to fund, fabricate, supply and install, 100 monopiles or jackets (2/week), 100 towers (2/week), multiple offshore & onshore substations, as well as lay all the necessary inter-array & export cables, etc, required for the 100 turbines (2/week) it will need to purchase each year. However the World Bank's, 'Offshore Wind Road Map for Vietnam,' states Vietnam is well positioned to be capable of installing 2GW/year by 2030 and 3GW/year by 2032.
With US$15.5 billion assistance from the Just Energy Transition Partnership, funding should not be a hurdle for Vietnam in achieving all of its 2030 goals.
"What is critical for Vietnam, is for it to firmly establish a very strong & united AI supported, home grown offshore wind energy industry sector."
